Just returned from our first time in Bali. Loved it, although it was a little to different to what we expected. if staying in Legian, Padma or Melasti or Jayakarta, try the Bamboo Corner Restuarant and Bar on Jl Padma Utara. (Opposite Padma resort) Say hi to Made, Agung and the gorgeous Wayan. Good cheap food and very friendly staff and atmosphere.
Also something to keep a note of, while there my son required medical attention (stitches from surfing accident) The Bali International Medical centre (BIMC)is an outstanding facility owned by An Australian with well trained staff and expat nurses and doctors. Phone number 761263.
We got stung by the hawkers on the beach for the first few days until we realised what things cost, but then again I wasn't really bothered haggling over 2 or 3 Aussie bucks.

A good resort to stay at in Legian is Puri Wisata on Jl Legian. Very cosy resort, not as big or noisy as Melasti.
We were a little dissapointed with Melasti due to the noise and right under the flight path. But we still enjoyed our stay and can't wait to go back now we know a little more.
