I have a really good memory for useless crap, lol. I often can't remember where I left my car keys, but I can usually remember how much to pay for stuff in Bali and where to get it - as well as what to see and do and so on.
What I do for the details though, is make a few simple notes like names, addresses and phone numbers etc. I always take a travel diary when I go overseas and it usually has a "contacts" section at the front or back. I make little headings like "bead shops" and then put the names and addresses etc below those. Then when I remember that there was a really great bead shop somewhere, all I have to do is look up the address and any directions I wrote down and it's all good.
