i visited an orphanage in a third world country this year. I found the easiest way was to simply ask the staff to come shopping with me and they picked out whatever they needed with the money we had. They bargain better than me too ;)Later we saw the things distributed fairly to the children by the staff.
All achieved with the minimum of fuss thank gawd, as i would have died of embarressment if we'd been treated as guests.
