we had 30 kilos extra allowance - because we were taking stuff to the orphanages. You can email them or ring to get this. We arrived really really early for the flight and had no wait at all to check in our luggage. No dramas at all.
On the way back we werent very early at all as our transfer didnt arrive (buggas!!!) and the hotel ended up driving us.
We picked the shortest line - but it has a lovely smiling lady behind the seat. Not a word about our weight - it was great.
If all else fails....I think it was cracker or one of the knowledgable ones who advised that you have about 40 000Rp tucked away in your pocket - and dont have any more money or credit card at hand.
Other tips....
1. Only pack items you are happy to leave behind. I left the shampoo, toothbrushes, cups etc - why waste space and weight on stuff like that when the Balinese appreciate anything you leave them behind. I pack my older shoes and clothes (p.j.s etc) and leave them there. For last minute givings - make up some packs for ladies at the beach or give it to Legian Garden Restaraunt who is a collection point for Crisis Care in Lovina.
2. Ask DVD places to put your DVD's in plastic rather than the hard containers. Then they can slot into a DVD holder taking up only a fraction of the space.
3. Take heavy stuff and your declarables on as hand luggage.
cheers
