Now Ann, we all know that salt is particularly hygroscopic (absorbs water) and Bali with it's very high humidity would put a glint in the eye of a 500g bag of salt.. it would just go on absorbing for ever. Your bag of salt would almost dissolve itself in the air. So, I believe that this hunk of salt would weigh heaps more over there. You don't honestly believe that those honest restauranteurs of Jimbaran Bay would CHEAT you??.. especially by 'adjusting' the scales to suit themselves, do you?? It is your salt which is wrong; not their scales. I know as a fact that the lobsters aroud Jimbaran Bay have at least TWICE the density of those from other regions of Indonesia. I have seen lobsters there that weigh in at 2.5kg, whilst over here in Oz, that same crustacean would weigh about 1.5kg. Also don't forget that the gravitational pull is greater in Bali!!
Your bag of salt is a liar. Their lobsters are denser. The pull of gravity, especially around Jimbaran Bay, is stronger. Their scales, if anything, weigh favour the tourists!! My psychologist says I'll improve a lot when I go back to Bali for another fix, and they're coming to take me away, ha ha, he he, ho ho... . . !!
Regards and Happy 'salt drying'
