Some additions that might be of your interest
Of all the museums we visited, we loved NEKA MUSEUM in Ubud best. For the details, I'd better make way for the guidebooks, but it's just great -- it's a must, but again you've got to be prepared to spend at least a half day here. RAFTING was outrageous. In spite of our age, we fell in love with it. We had read Bali International and Sobek Expeditions were famous and safe, but we chose Adventure Rafting (for the greater excitement). It WAS exciting and fun, but not as adventurous as we had expected, and it was unexpectedly expensive: including transportation to and from, rafting gears, shower, lunch, and insurance, we paid US$150 for us two. We later learned we could have enjoyed it at much lower price somewhere else. Still, it was exciting and fun for sure; we LOVED it. Remember to take your bathing suit, towels, soap and shampoo (if you need) and maybe extra clothes. They'll provide you with a big waterproof bag for your things. Not for the small kids.
SNORKELING was facile and fun. We made a reservation at the "Water Sports" counter at the poolside in the hotel. They took us in the car to the Benoa beach, where we got in a glassboat, and off we went to the coral reef. At the bread-crumbs we had in our hand, lots of pretty and cute fish came rushing and picking. We had spent a good hour in the sea when we realized we were a little tired. Had a short rest on the boat and were back again in the sea. When we were on the boat, we felt a little cold, and wished we had brought extra T-shirt or something to put on. We paid US$30 for two of us, including the transportation and the gears.
Half the pleasure of traveling might be encountering, especially with people, local or from abroad, and we did meet some pleasant, happy, interesting, and fascinating people, all those unforgettable people, with whom we talked many hours away about anything and everything; art, books, music, food, politics, economics, computer and internet, the people's (especially women's) life in Indonesia and Bali, etc. etc., among others traveling, of course. We are looking forward to the next opportunity to write about those on the Forum. Ciao
