I bought furniture. I did take lots of photos and charged it "just in case" - did no good that it was charged. My Teak and mahogny furniture had lots of water damage- it apopeared to have occurred on ship as the wrapping was still wet. Home owners wouldn't cover it either. We cleared everything ourselves- wished I had unwrapped it at the pickup place- it would have made the fight easier. It took 6 months and finally the shipping company in LA paid- I wrote letters to every maritime agency etc I could.
The end note- my husband was ready to buy more furniture our last 2 trips.
Not me. It ended up restored beautiful and definitely worth more then the amount I paid. But we had to pick up in San Fran bug bomb the whole way to Sacramento, had to get it undone then termite fumigated for another $500 as the wood was full (hopefully I won't find out years from now my house is infected) Then restoration for water damamge.
I originaly paid $768 for a china cabinet, table, 6 captain chairs and a side table. and about $1100 for shipping. My set is probably worth several thousand since the restoration company offered me $4000 for my dining table that was only $100 when I thought I would chuck it rather than pay more or hassle more.
