Hallo Jim,

I think that the music you heard at your beach was't Balinese at all.
As "Dr. Bali" wrote you, it most probably was Sunda-Music; that one
goes very rapidly into your ears and pleases you.

Balinese music doesn't. It is very time-consuming to listen to,
because it is a kind of "5-tone-music" which we are not used to
listen to, are we ?! The gamelan (instruments) are made of metal resp. of bamboo and therefore can produce only a rather limited number of
tones.
But it makes you calm and relaxed - and after a two-weeks stay with
at least half-an-hour music per day you will miss it!

Regards
