From what I beleive from my friends who have just returned from the the island of paradise is that most of the hawkers have left the streets of Kuta and Legian but there is a lot more activity on the beach. We havent been to Bali since October 1998 but will return this year. Other people who answer this forum can help you out more on this subject. Also check archives for June and July 1999.
