Officials in Bali today issued a stern warning to tourists following increasing reports of damage to rental vehicles on the resort island.

The warning follows advice given to tourists and freely available on a popular internet travel "Forum"

"What started as a trickle earlier this year has frown to the extent where we are now receiving several reports a week on damage to vehicle interiors" stated senior police official Mr. Made.

The practice known as "Tear out my car seat" was mistakenly reported on the internet as a customary way of expressing gratitude, and while the official stated that the confusion was understandable, future incidents would not be tolerated.

"We have managed to resolve most situations with a mechanic and a small official donation" he said, "however the practice must now cease and any further reports will be dealt with harshly."

Mr. Made went on to mention that while the advice was available to internet users worldwide, incidents to date seem to have involved mainly Australians, particularly those from the southern States.
