Please find following a bulletin to Australian residents in regard to Mount Rinjani, Lombok:
WARNING FOR TRAVELLERS TO MOUNT RINJANI, LOMBOK
In the past week there have been two serious attacks against Australian citizens preparing to climb Mount Rinjani on the island of Lombok. In both cases the climbers were attacked in the early hours of the morning by a group armed with machetes. Both victims had stayed overnight in preparation for a pre-dawn start to their climb. Serious injuries were sustained in one case and only good luck prevented injuries in the second. Both victims were robbed of their belongings.
Until further notice the Australian Consulate Bali recommends the cancellation of plans to visit this area, and to exercise the utmost care and caution if travel eventuates.
