The Swastika seems to be ideal for kids there are many there at present. you could get two air conditioned rooms together but not joined. Fan cooled rooms with outside bathroom have connecting door (way to go) prices are about AUD 40 air conitioned and around AUD30 for fan cooled. The beauty of this hotel is that all prices are reasonable and you can safely let the kids order as they wish without breaking the bank. Breakfast is included in the price.
Very prevelant at the moment in Sanur ladies with babies begging and it seems they are coming from elsewhere - what do you do ???? I am happy to give to the crippled and maimed here but do not like the use of children for begging, seems like the next thing that needs cleaning up.
Hawkers are not very aggressive but I may misjudge as I don't really have problems with them anyway, the usual avoidance of eye contact and a pleasant no thank you is all that is required.
We have found many little gems in warungs and some over priced restaurants, I will list them all on our return.
The southern end of Sanur on the beach is becoming a slum area from Griya Santrian towards the Hyatt. The path has washed away and of course nor repaired,the tiles are now being used as flooring in humpies for the locals. At high tide it was almost impossible to walk along the beach front, there are empty sites left undeveloped which are becomig dumping grounds and that end of town is becoming quite depressing.
Prices are slightly higher than Kuta but still cheap, the exception being leathewr shops where I have found them reluctant to do business other than at their price which in general is too high,
Local transport is doing it tough with the increase in the number of taxis so good prices can be negotiated. Bit of a worry is the fact that taxi drtivers seem to do an 18 hour stint at the wheel !!!!
