....IS most certainly a place on the Bukit Peninsula in South Bali.
While it may be a resort compound with a nice strip of beach and some of the best hotels in the world, which are staffed by Balinese. The tourist dollar spent there generates a huge spin off for the local people of Bualu and Benoa etc. While it may not encapsulate Bali to you AGirl, for many people it represents a wonderful place for recreation/rest imbued with Balinese hospitality and serenity.
Baliphiles can argue ad infinitum about the quintessential Bali.. but some people just want a nice beach....Bualu/Nusa Dua beach is IMHO quite nice...a bit weedy when the tide is out but wide and manicured beaches...wonderful.
P.S. Also if you are into surfing...the Nusa Dua reef is one of the most challenging breaks...rarely under 4 ft, and often surfed to 20ft.
