I've just returned from 3 weeks in the Ubud area, where I had the best driver ever. His English, rates, driving and knowledge are good, but most importantly, he made sure that I saw more than just the standard "sights". He took me to where the weaving is done, and the carving, and the jewlery is made, I bought there and the prices were definitely better than Ubud. He takes no commission on what you buy (many drivers do.) He explained their religious beliefs, offerings and culture. . And he arranged a great hotel in a friendly village outside Ubud (5 min by car, 1 hour georgeous walk) . No airconditioning, but I never needed it (great view though).
