Not to worry, it's not a BAD hotel, just not worth US$100. Ubud in general seemed twice as expensive as Kuta, so maybe that's the going rate for a mid-range hotel up there.
If you like to read in bed, toss one of those fluorescent bulbs that put out 100 watts or so in your bag. Stick with bacon and eggs for breakfast, dinner items were okay if not exciting, and you can always go shopping in Ubud in the afternoon and come home after dinner at one of the many restaurants there. Just don't expect a 4-star hotel, and you won't be disappointed. Also you may want to hire a driver - lots of suggestions given here, including one from us. It gives you lots of freedom to flit about.
