There is much to be said about Pirated s/w and authorities. I think it is not so much about fear as perception. I think that in two years I have seen the shop closed once. It seems to me more of an issue of don't be flagrant about it and no one will do anything about it, therefore you will not see it (OFTEN) in any malls, but S/W is always for sale. The guys with the map are always there and they point to where you always get the software. Yes, if you only go once then it is possible they may not have the title you are looking for, but they usually have all the popular titles. If you want an option you can go to Mong Kok as you suggested, though I have found that they don't have any better selection than golden Center, that is why I always go to golden. The street you want in Mong Kok is Nelson St. just east off Tung Choi Street ('Ladies Market'). You will not be able to miss the computer center there. about 5 shops in. It is a small shopping center that always has a computer display that is visible from the street. Impossible to miss. It is one of the better places to price shop for computer equipment along with the Golden computer center. It important that they think you live in Hong Kong or you will get tourist prices.
