We have been to Bali many times when through what we consider a stroke of gool luck met Nyoman a driver and guide on a streetcorner in Kuta. Just like you we wanted to see more of Bali not only what's in brochures and is widely known. We asked his advise and he told us about an area that is just opening up to tourists and not very well known. It is situated around the village of Plaga in central Bali. we have gone there several times now and are so impressed by what we found there that we decided to make up a web page for them on our return home. There is tekking to Waterfalls , visist to temples and we found it the only place where one can still experience the rich culture of Bali and village life as is has been for a long time. Pondok Wana is at this stage is the only accommodation there. It is centraly located and we went for tours to the "other" side of bali to enjoy the beaches around Lovinia. The west of Bali we did not find very interesting , but there is a few nice places to stay along the north coast. Pondok Sari and Alam Anda are our favourites.
