If you really want to save money but still have a good time, I would do it the opposite from your plan. Instead of paying too much at the Bounty and then starving... I would stay at a budget accomodation and then enjoy the food (and drink if you are inclined), and take a tour, and get a massage etc. with your savings. I mean, what is a hotel room for, anyway, except simply a place to sleep when you're too tired to have any more fun?Actually, no matter where you stay, you shouldn't have to skimp on meals because they are one of the most affordable parts of Bali.
