Hi Bill,
I don't know your age group or how many people you are talking about.
( I.E. with kids or not )
I can only comment on the Rama Baruna ( even though the Risata is next door) as that's where I stayed for 17 days and nights:
Rooms:
The rooms are all bungalow style and larger than a normal hotel room,
however the furniture and fittings are a little old but they all work.
Rooms come in 2 x single beds OR King size bed and they can fit a 3rd bed with plenty of room left. Rooms are ground level, 2 to a block and are situated in a nice pleasant garden setting. They have airconditioning , hot / cold water , bar fridge , ISD phone and Satellite TV. You also have an outside sitting area ( ground floor balcony ) for each room.
Pool:
The pool has a large swim up bar and they cook satay everyday at the pool bar for lunch. Another thing worth mentioning is the pool doesn't have an official closing time and we found ourselves still swimming at 10 or 11pm on some nights ( They do however , add the necessary chemicals at around midnight but will wait till the last person leaves the pool. )
Restaurant:
Situated near the pool ,the restaurant has a good selection of meals and although they wont kill your budget they are at hotel prices ( still cheap compared to OZ ) They have different entertainment every night in the form of vocal/guitar , vocal/keyboards duet , Balinese Dancing and vocalists. ( They have bali theme nights usually sundays, that Do have a smorgasbord ONLY )There is also a bar in the restaurant for drinks if you don't feel like getting wet at the pool bar.
Although the breakfast has a fairly good range for this class of hotel , the american breakfast was rather boring after 17 mornings :)
Staff:
Excellent , very courteous ,polite and helpful , what more can I say. I was extremely happy with the staff and services I
received from them and the management.
Over all I feel this is an older style , quiet 2½ to 3 star hotel small in comparison to the larger chains. You are made very welcome from your first drink and I would go back again , No problem. If you are looking for a fast action hotel that caters for the youthful this is not for you.
Cheers Shar^kie
P.S.
There are two great restaurants almost directly across the road from the hotel's ( S.A. Cafe : One of the cheapest restaurants I have found in Bali : prawn cocktails for $AUS 1.20 ) and ( Lotus Pond : across the road and away from the beach about 200 yards : Great atmosphere and nice food )
