Just a further note on the petrol stations. I was chatting to people in bali who had hired a car and they said they needed to do a lot of haggling to get a good price but finally managed - set aside about half a day to check out hire companies (sorry I dont have the name of the one she used!). They also said at the petrol stations you need to check that the pump has been reset to zero before you start to fill up, often you are re-charged for the petrol of the person before you. Good luck. Oh and getting used to the other side of the road doesn't take too long.
