Once again...I seem to have started an unintentional controversy. Just for the record...the airport/porter/excess baggage thing is the "norm" in every airport/city/country that I have ever worked in. You want to talk about corruption in Bali...O.K.! Let's talk about the grinning, gap-toothed, beetlenut-breath Balinese Custom Official, always there to greet me upon arrival. One look at my cases and equipment...and it's off to that private office at Ngurah Rai. Here I am given the option of leaving a rp5,000,000 "deposit" on the gear, which I may or may not have reimbursed upon departure...or negotiating a "donation" to the very same official. Also...for the record...I did not make it this way. When in Rome...
