Bali is still great! All the wonderful reports, this one can't add much. I don't know about accomedations first hand because I stay in a friend's house in Ubud, but I can say this Ubud has too many good resturants to list. I don't see the Jazz Cafe on the forum, its great. Also missing Ary's Warung on Jl Raya is pricey by Bali standards, but very reasonable compared to home and the food is really excellent, worth the price. Lunch is much cheaper so try that first. Indus was really beatiful, incredible views and good food. They provide free transportation from Casa Luna and usually deliver you back to your hotel.
I have been to Ubud many times but never made it to the art museum on the main road. After meeting a few older painters at a ceremony in Pangoseken I decied to check it out. The place is tranquil and beautiful and the work on display wonderful.
Also went over to Java, Yogyakarta. It was very interesting and fun, but lacked the paradise atomosphere of Bali. The Rayamayana Ballet preformed at the ruins of Prambanan temple is truely spectacular. Borobudro is definitly collosal. Malioboro street is really something else. I loved it, but it is for the adventurer. Crowded and not 5 star at all.
I had the sad experience of meeting several travelers who had been ripped off by money changers in Kuta. Happily that isn't happening in Ubud that I heard, but listen to the constant warnings on this Forum and be careful!
