I just returned from Bali today. I went with my wife and two teenage sons. Wayan Nama met us at the airport, helped us find a wonderful homestay in Ubud. Took us on several outings and then helped arrange a wonderful stay in a very rural area. He helped negociate the price, he drove us there, he called every day to see how things were going. One of my sons developed a very bad ear infection and he showed us a lot of special attention.
He had been the manager of a high-end hotel in the area and all the staff at the hotel loved him. We went to this hotel for a swim and dinner and when we told the staff he was our friend they were really excited and nice to us.
I recommend him. He knows Bali well, he understood that we wanted to get away from the crowds and he helped make it happen. He took us back road to places so we could see beautiful countryside.
To me he is more a guide than a driver. He can also arrange for other drivers on days when he is occupied. He got us a good discount on rafting tickets, made great suggestions about where to eat, stay and tour.
He visited the US recently so he has some intersting insights into east/west differences. He is very articulate and thoughtful.
He is hard to reach except by e-mail: namasiwa@hotmail.com
