Simon, having dealt with 'Pompous Pommie' I'll now respond, rationally to your question. Yes, wine is alcohol.. full stop. BUT you don't have to declare it upon entry. Every time we go over we take two or three (of that non-'Frog', therefore undrinkable) Australian wine casks as well as the usual duty-free Scotch and Gin. Our Pommie friend obviously looks as pathetic as he sounds, owing to the fact that the Customs folk in Bali always take such pleasure in 'Rummaging' through his cases. Wendy and I have never, repeat never, been checked. We're always just waved through.
I have been informed by some acquaintances, that they were checked once and had to forfeit one of their four casks. (I'm sure the customs guys enjoyed it after work!!).
Just take what you want and enjoy it (you'll need a 'fridge though).
Let's face it, what does it really matter if you loose your excess anyway.. the Bintang's just wonderful... and CHEAP!!
Regardshh an' happy, happy Travelsh.. hic!
Brookesy.
PS. I don't know what all the fuss is about regrading French wines.
We spent 4 weeks driving around the French countryside two years ago, drinking any wines that took our fancy, and quite frankly I thought they were tiresome, insipid with no real body, and terribly expensive.
