Do not consider this as fact...but, my experience is that you can get a lot more weight out of Bali by hiring a porter at the airport and giving him a reasonably generous tip to get your bagage on the plane. I'm a photographer and travel in with 4 or 5 very heavy cases of equipment. On the way into Bali, Garuda charges me US$100 per extra case, no if, ands, or buts...However, on the way out... a hefty "tip" to a porter has always gotten the gear on with no excess charge at all. There are no guarantees here, but...it does seem that on that end...a little money greases the wheel. I usualy offer rp50,000, but have been forced to tip as much as rp75,000, but hey, it was still cheaper than the US$400 I would have had to pay to Garuda.
