No offence to the Balanees but as long as it is not ruphia it is not that critical. If you have to change from your country's currency into US $ there will be a cost. So unless you are from an obscure country I would advise take your own currency, but for tips a few 1 $ bills come in handy.
You get a better exchange rate for cash but risk the chance of loosing it without the insurance of travellers cheques
