Hi Kim,
I envy you! You will have a great time at the Bintang - it's a wonderful hotel (maybe not as nice as the Intercontinental, but still nice).
If you have booked a standard room (like we had) i don't think you can get a room right up near the pool. The rooms closest to the pool are the higher class of rooms. Our room (1033) was still very close to the pool. They have grounds/gardens in the middle leading down to the pool, and blocks of hotel rooms on either side. We were on the right hand side (when facing towards the beach), which was nice. I think the other side is closer to the road, so may be noisier.
The even numbered rooms go down one side, and the odd ones down the other.
We preferred the ground floor, as the rooms had nice balconies, and on our side, were overlooking the gardens, plus there weren't too many steps to go up and down! Try to get a room on the garden side if you can. The higher floors possibly had a view of the beach, but the balconies weren't as open.
They have a model of the hotel in the lobby, and they will show you this when giving you the option of which rooms to choose from, and the model gives you a good idea of where everything is situated.
Hope this is helful for you.
Have a great time
Laura
