Hawkers

I have just read many postings about hawkers on the beach and streets below. I have heard many conflicting responses as to whether there still are or are not any hawkers on Bali, or at least in Kuta and Legian.

I will be arriving in Bali on the 11th Sept and will be shopping, strolling and eating for the most part on Jalan bakung Sari and Jalan Legian for that time. I was wondering if any recent return-ees could tell me the status on the street seller situation? To me the entire bali experience would not be the same without the hawkers. Some people find them annoying (whick some can be), but for the most part I find them to be friendly, funny and just plain lovely people. I just cannot imagine the Kuta streets without them and quite frankly I don't want to.
When I want to get away from it all I go to Ubud for a few days, Kuta would be right without the the sellers, let alone the many people I now call friends.

I seem to have rambled on a bit too much. I'm sorry, but any help as to what it is like would be greatly appriciated

Kelly
