Pearl farms are concentrated at Dobo,Lombok,Sulawesi. About 80 Japanese and local enterprises
are involved currently. All the harvest(pearl production) is sent to either Kobe(Japan) or Hong
Kong for *processing*(high technology) and the international auction for world marketing.
Theoretically some small portion are reexported into Indonesia. But the truth is most of the
pearls presented to tourists are Chinese fresh-water pearls which are considerably less expensive.
Yet, how many people can tell the difference unfortunately.
