Though I don't know what the price comparison is between booking in the States, as a resident of HK who has just returned 3 weeks ago from Bali, I can tell you that there are some good deals around and that HK is generally a good bucket shop for airfares around Asia. Since it would be the high season you might have to pay more for full economy (maybe around US$700 return - we paid about US$500 return at Easter) but if you are flexible you can get good deals including accommodation, e.g. check the special deals section at www.anytours.com.hk - a HK travel agent - see below (1 US$ = 7.74 HK$ so this deal is US$368)
