LB... Whether you're sans husband or evec husband doesn't really matter in Bali. You'll be completely safe, especially in Ubud. The worst you might encounter would be some good natured flirting from the drivers lining the streets. As far as accommodation goes any of the better hotels would be fine...don't pre-book, just turn up and look them over before deciding. Don't be afraid to hire a driver from the road side and get him to take you around to see a few. Or if you prefer prebook a driver by email. Check the forum for an excellent list of reliable ones...and don't worry, I guarantee you'll have a ball.
P.S. I would recommend though that the place you stay is in the heart of Ubud, so you can just wander out anytime to shop or eat in the many great little restaurants that are everywhere.
