I booked my first night through the internet. One of the reason's being that I didn't arrive until 10 PM and didn't want to have to start haggling right away. The price seemed comparable to what people on the forum had paid for that hotel that they hadn't booked on the internet.
I sent my email reservation request about a week before I left. I didn't receive a confirmation email by the time I had left. When I got to the hotel, they told me they were full, so I told them I had sent an email reservation to them. Then they gave me a room.
