Hoezit. With the weak Rand, you are going to pay quite a bit for those dollars that these folk talk so freely about (I think it is about R6,5 now) The US dollar gets about 8000 - 9000 rupiah so work the maths. I took some AUD which cost me R4 at the time (don't know what it is now) and this varied from 5400 - 5600. Try the classic 164 currency converter on the net which gives you an average conversion between various currencies
Taking a credit card is a good idea but remember:
1)There are more mastercard outlets than Visa (try Bali Bank for Visa) 2)No problem around Kuta square and Sanur's main drag.
3)The machines are often down - once they were doing there reconciling
It was a Sunday - OK, and then with frequent power failures you can
get stuck with no bucks.
4)When I left the conversion to the R was 1 450, but my credit card
conversions were 1370.
The good news is that you can get great value for your rand if you are careful about how you spend. ENJOY IT.
