My son ended up in hospital in Thailand when this happened to him. He is a seasoned traveller, and knows not to: open his mouth in the shower, swim in the wrong water, drink anything but bottled water, have ice in his drinks, eat salad or any fruit that hasn't been peeled by him and still he was very ill, he was in the hospital on a drip for 5 days and they said that the bacteria/virus got in some other way than his mouth!
