The Department store prices would be the same in Denpasar and Kuta. The range of goods would probably be greater in Denpasar. The merchandise in these stores are mainly for Indonesians(not many large sizes of anything) however I found many interesting things to buy.Two of many department stores found throughout Indonesia (and Bali) are Ramayana & Matahari.
Australians may be interested that Raymayana can be compared to TARGET or K Mart stores where the Matahari is more up market just behind Myer /Grace Bros or David Jones.
Clothes in all these stores are very cheap compared to Australia and overseas but remember that the quality may be questionable. Imported clothes are always more expensive but don't look too hard for larger sizes they usually are not to be found. Credit cards are welcome and are safe to use there, the exchange rate is always the best when using credit cards. If the store is offering any discounts on any items you wish to purchase you will be charged a futher 3% for using a credit card however non discounted goods don't attract the charge.
Some other stores are Robinsons, Melawai and Sarinah.
