We stayed at Bakungs last July. Given that it is budget accomodation we were very pleasantly surprised. It has everything you want. The rooms are fine - cleaned every day - staff are friendly - nice pool area with swim up bar and cheap to eat and drink. Who wants to stay at a more expensive place where you pay an arm and a leg to eat and drink?
Bakungs is at the quiet(er) end of Kuta, but is walking distance to Kuta Beach, and there are some great restaurants nearby. You can also get anything you want in the laneway outside.
I thoroughly recommend Bakungs - Enjoy.
