I would highly reccomend that you get out of Sanur as quickly as possible and make Ubud your headquarters. This really is the heart and soul of authentic Bali and the dances, performances, etc. are far better around Ubud. You will be able to stay extremely comfortably in Ubud for very little, or as much as you want to spend. Oka Kartini is an exceptionally nice small Hotel with pool, shadow puppent performances, bar, restaurnat and Bali style bungalows in the garden, walk to the center of Ubud and the market in 4 mins., about $20 per night for 2 including breakfast.
