We have just got back with a ten month and 2 1/2 year old and our experience was pretty much as John has said.

The balinese loved the baby and were quite happy to entertain her whilst we were shopping, and even in some restaurants. My babe would complain intially but it would only take a moment for them to make her laugh.

We took baby food, nappies, drinks etc but you can get most of this over there anyway.

The baby would sleep by the pool under shade so that did not restrict our pool time activities!!We also took the SPF50 swim suits, a swim ring, and a fold up stroller which was useful for walks along beach, putting babe in by the pool, carrying stuff etc.

In terms of leaving the baby, we used the hotel sitting service. Most sitters appeared to be mothers themselves, not really good at understanding instructions with feeding etc but quite capable. Ask for the same sitter.

But if yours is the only babe (it is difficult to go out at night with a 2 1/2 year old) I would be inclined to take him/her with you unless you were planning to paint the town red - I guess if at home you leave her behind, then do the same there.

Watch out for the mossies at night if you do take the babe with you.
