Bernd, your question is very open-ended and I fear that people may find it difficult to reply. I suggest you spend a few hours to search the forum archives using key words to cover your interests, and research Bali by reading. Give yourself time in say two or three centres, using each as a base. Include Ubud for sure, for a week/ten days. Try to learn a few words of Bahasa Indonesian before you get there. Don't be put off by initial impressions immediately outside the airport upon arrival. Consider the option of a side trip to Lombok also. John
