If you are not beach people, but would like to see the culture of Bali and some interesting villages and industries (crafts), do not go to Kuta from the airport if you are not going to rent a car. Kuta is a Toilet. Soory, it is actually 7x worse. Go straight to Ubud from the Airport. It is about a 30 minute ride. From Ubud you can reach the whole island easily on day tours and have the convenience of a vibrant, multy choice town to live in. The beaches in Bali are mediocre. Really. Good Luck!
