But in Indonesia? Pardon me! Here's a small sample of Indonesian tech-know-how:

I once called the airport and insisted to be put through to the tower. I got hold of the duty manager and asked him wether Denpasar airport has prepared for the GPS-glitch (Global Positioning System), which has nothing to do with Y2K, but hits on August 22nd 1999 by resetting the GPS calendar to week 1 of its entire 1024 preprogramed weeks, meaning that the GPS is set back to January 6th 1980 and GPS receivers have to be programed to deal with that.

Here are his answers:

1. He didn't know what GPS means.
2. He hadn't heard of the GPS-glitch at all.
3. Therefore their GPS equipment hadn't been any concern.
4. He thought the Y2K bug was only affecting desktop computers.

And this last one made me decide to leave. Hey, I once stuck in the airport for 3 hours because a lightening stroke the tower and they couldn't get planes off the ground. But heck, on the other hand December 31st 1999 is a Friday, so they have the whole weekend to fix any problems (as a Malaysian government official stated once).

Just watch on August 22nd. If things go wrong then they for sure will on New Year too.
