Spent some time up North and in the Mountains... feel that there is a much more conservative vibe there. If you plan on going away from the Southern Beach areas, I would suggest bringing some long sleeve linen shirts or cotton sweaters to use as cover-ups in restaurants and such. You will never see a Bali native showing their shoulders or even knees in most cases... !
I made the mistake of not bringing many clothes with me and I couldn't find anything decent to buy there! The clothing thing really is a major matter of taste!!! I wear mostly Gap, J Crew, Bananna Republic Clothing and you will find NONE of that type of clothing there... mostly Batik stuff, cheesy t-shirts, Sarongs, etc...
Your call... but the clothes thing was a BIG mistake for me. Thank God for those Laundry services everywhere... I washed ALOT!
