When we're in Bali we take a small piece of card that we write AUD$ amounts on and what their equivalent is in rupiah. eg. 5000rp = AUD$1, 10,000rp = AUD$2 etc. This is easy and we keep it in our backpack or bumbag, whatever you are carrying your money in. It is easy to grab out of your bag and find the amount on the card. By the end of your trip, as Anna said, you won't need to convert into your own currency as you will be so used to it all.
