I am positive that Bali would be an awesome place to be for the eve of the new millenium (yes yes, I know that technically the next millenium starts on Jan. 1 2001, but for the purposes of this message I'm talking about Jan. 1 2000). I have been there over the New Years period 3 times in my life now and I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. I am spending this New years in Sydney, but have a great time on your trip ! As for snorkelling sites and side trips, try the following suggestions:
the Gili islands off north west Lombok (especially Gili Air) - they have great snorkelling and also scuba diving
tulamben for snorkelling and scuba diving
Lembongan Island (off South east coast of Bali) for relaxation
Lovina Beach (to go on an early morning boat trip to see the dolphins and sunrise)
have a delicious seafood dinner on Jimbaran bay at sunset- magnificent
I could go on forever ! Also, have a look at the website www.bali2000.com for more info about a huge beach party/concert which will be on.
