Sounds to me like your son may have a mild case of gastroenteritis if his only symptoms are gas and cramping. Acute cases are usually accompanied by diarrhea (non bloody) and a fever. This malady is common in Bali (and throughout Indonesia) but should not be confused with simple "Bali belly" or traveller's diarrhea. It needs to be treated with antibiotics, an antispasmotic and, if your son is dehydrated, with electolytes...a higher than normal heart rate will determine this. Bottom line...take him to a doctor.
