I'm 5"7' - size 8 - although I found the sizes fitted fine they were a little too short (for off the rack clothing) so you could have a bad time with the length of things. Other than shorter skirts of course. I also found in the 'department' stores that a lot the materials (especially suits) were a bit yucky (a bit 80s looking). I also found that the jeans in these stores were really long (weird).
Go to Kuta Square for 'designer' clothing - the Animale shop on the corner upstairs has some great things.
With regard to getting things made - well I have only been to four tailors and they all couldn't quite do the 'womens' clothing thing right (in my opinion of course). As you said - its 'Asian' style clothing. As far as I can see they're all trained to make men's clothing and they do that really well.
I have a friend who has clothes made in Bali for commercial purposes so I'm going to find out their address and I'll let you know.
They do say they'll do things from a picture and I must say they are good at it. But better if you have something to give them to copy. Its best if you get the material yourself from a material shop there - they have a huge range - you'll find them all over the place. Give them a go on one piece and see if your happy with it!
The leather and suede jackets I had made were great - they did the jackets off of pictures. I'll have to get back to you on the names of the places I went to - they were in Poppies Lane II but I've forgotten the name exactly.
I hope that helps - I'm definitely no guru and maybe you'll find someone who's found a 'good' womens tailor. I hope you do because I love to know of them.
When are you going?
Good luck
