Hi JG

When we stayed in Bali last year, we spent the first five days in Sanur and the other nine in Tuban. We didn't do that much in Sanur except to acclimatise and pig out on food. It's nice and relaxing there as for some reason last May Bali was exceptionally quiet . We wandered up and down Jalan Danau Tamblingan (the main drag )and just ate out where we fancied. If you like reggae and decent food ,try Kalpatharu Restaurant. They will pick you up from your hotel and take you back as a free couresty service. Despite the number of restaurants along this road, we ate lunch nearly everyday at a little place opposite the Kalpathuru . It was nothing fancy in comparison to others and the food whilst wholesome was nothing special but the family that ran it,were friendly and told us a lot about Bali's customs. It was also extremely cheap and ourfamily of five with at least two drinks each never spent more than $10Aus ($6US).In fact, it was usually a lot less but it depended on how many Bintang beers hubby drank.

Another good Restaurant was Lotus Pond with a romantic setting. More expensive but still ridiculously cheap by our standards, it offered a huge menu .I can't remember what I ate,but the hubby had a steak on a sizzling hot plate and said it was yummy. They had musicians that went from table to table singing and our four year old son was supplied with pencils and a colour in tablemat. They were prepared for everything it seems. They also have a complimentary hotel pick up service.

We had read about a german style restaurant/pub on the Bali Forum and decided to spend one evening there. Koki's Restaurant/Pub is owned by an Austrian and seems to be a popular haunt with ex-pats. It is cosy & homely in a real pub atmosphere. It's on the Jalan By-Pass heading towards Kuta. It specialises in german/austrian homestyle cooking and we thoroughly enjoyed it.Main meals were served with salad, french fries or rice. The kids thought it was great to sit at the bar whilst we waited for our table.

We walked right along the main drag down as far as the Double U shopping centre and into the supermarket there. We bought quite a few supplies there and my daughter was delighted to pick up wooden cat ornaments that are so popular(sets of three) for $1 australian for the set.We bought a lot of little things from here at cheaper prices than you could in the markets and in Kuta stores.Actually we found Sanur generally cheaper for most things.

If you want to know anymore...please email me . BTW sharkie says hi to you JG :)
