A person's expectations of a driver/guide is usually very unique to that of another. It must be very difficult them to get it right & pre-empt the expectations of the group. One person's definition of the 'best' place to shop could be the best variety, best service, best price? Who knows? And bargaining being the preamble to purchase in Bali, your methods of bargaining may be better than mine, hence your cheaper purchase at a particular shop. Your driver/guide sees how delighted or disgruntled you where at a particular shop & because of this may make a bee-line for it next time or avoid it completely - his only wishes to please his group. Very difficult for them. Go easy on them. Ultimately they wish only to please. For instance I would prefer to be taken to a little shop down the lane or out in a small village somewhere & watch them making their wares & purchase from them direct. But my mother on the other hand would prefer the larger department shops or a busy street with lots of other shops, variety/choices. The obvious thing to do would be to talk to your prospective guide/driver & get a feel for them visa versa.
