There are many honest money changers around. You can pretty well bet that they do not have the highest rate. I tried a couple with the highest rate (no commission) and I was amazed at how they tried to cheat. They count the money in front of you - and it is not even fast so you don't think you are being cheated. However when I counted myself I was invaribly 50 000 out! I also found that the honest changers invaribly gave you 50 000 notes which are much easier to check and so more difficult for them to cheat. The down side is that the 20 000 are easier to use. Such is life.
My advice is take a little mini calculator and then check the money yourself after it has been counted. I found a reliable changer in Sanur about 5 minutes away from the Penjur restaurant (direction away from the Hyatt hotel) I can't remember the name but she sat in a little wooden cubicle slightly away from the road.
