I made the mistake of getting some Rupiah before going to Bali and have decided never again. The exchange rate in Australia was significantly worse than I was able to get at the Denpasar airport PLUS I had to pay a commission for changing money in Australia, and there was no commission at the airport money changer. I don't change much at the Denpasar airport, either, as the money changers in Kuta are better, and the Visa direct-debit ATM's have been even better than any of the money changers.
